Habitat evaluation is important in terms of applying an ecosystem-level perspective that considers the full range of interactions among habitat components. By reviewing the status and trends of habitats this module provides students who are interested in working in practical ecology and conservation in the UK with the appropriate knowledge and experience. Students will evaluate a range of techniques used in habitat creation. The restoration of degraded habitats (e.g. lowland heathland, woodland) will be discussed and issues such as coastal realignment will be considered. This module also explores a range of condition assessment and management planning procedures used within the countryside and will enable students to evaluate information and to produce conservation management plans for specific sites.
