This module builds upon the 30 credit module: Working in Outdoor Activity. It is designed to be contextualized to meet the needs of the individual student who will be offered the chance to specialise in one or more of the activities already developed in the linked module Working in Outdoor Activity or to engage beyond those offered at Essex Outdoors sites but with Essex Outdoors support.
The aim of this module is for students to develop a wider range of higher level technical skills, but also the cognitive abilities and personal attributes that are conducive to successful performance at work. Critical reflection is required, focusing on personal and professional qualities and the role within the workplace. The module enables students to gain a critical understanding of career development and personal development planning. There is a strong focus upon identifying key attributes required for employment within the outdoor industry. The opportunity to specialise in one or more disciplines of choice will be encouraged with the support to undertake appropriate work-based skills development with the acquisition of appropriate industry qualifications.
