Protected areas of one form or another are the cornerstone of most conservation effort. These protected sites range in size and complexity from simple nature reserves of a few hectares in extent to huge multi-use areas such as biosphere reserves and national parks. The management of protected areas requires the integration of a range of skills and strategies, the ability to deal with complex issues and the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams. This unit aims to enable students to develop understanding and skills which will help them to become effective practitioners in this work.
