The student will develop an understanding of detailed construction processes and technologies for advanced landscape architecture projects from the initial topographic survey drawing of an area of land by producing a range of construction drawings e.g. design proposal, cut and fill, hard landscape, setting out and construction details. Students will examine and interpret the construction requirements and technologies to produce relevant information to industry standards to allow contractors and builders to construct the completed design. Construction problems and materials will be researched through independent research and study, proposals and solutions will be produced and discussed in the studio.
Areas to support the technical elements of design will be considered e.g. surface and sub-surface drainage, change of levels (steps and ramps), surfaces, walls (free standing and retaining) and hard landscape materials. The module reflects on appropriate hard landscape technologies.
